STUDENT LIFE

Kindness, Collaboration and Togetherness

Student Life

MMCS students have many opportunities to enjoy time together with friends in fellowship!

From school-wide skating parties and praise concerts to fun days, field trips and school dances for certain grades, we offer a variety of ways for students to interact both within or outside of the classroom!

Lunch

Hot lunches are available four days a week for students in K-8th and are ordered a month at a time through the EZ School apps website. Orders will only be accepted by credit card.

Parents will need to create an account on the website to order lunches. An email with instructions and school code has been sent, please call the office if you have not received it.

Area restaurants and caterers provide a variety of food in individual containers for our student population. Students may order a hot lunch as many days per month as desired, however, lunchboxes are always welcome. There will be a two-week window prior to the first of each month to order lunches. Once the window closes, no further orders will be accepted.

Students may purchase $1.00 Sarris Candy bars during any lunch period.

Service Projects

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

At MMCS, we believe in “paying it forward”. Over the years, we’ve completed service projects for such organizations as Operation Christmas Child, Center for Hope, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Lind-a-Hand — to name a few. We’ve also collected donations for the American Heart Association, JDRF, the Heifer Project, Samaritan’s Purse, and other missions over the last several years. Hundreds of food products have been collected for local shelters; loads of clothing have been collected for needy families in our community; hundreds of blankets have been made for the children at WVU Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh Children's Hospital, and the Caring Place. We are also committed to supporting our local nursing homes, the VFD, and our military.

Missions for the coming year:

Our school believes that we need to encourage children to have a heart for others. It is not unusual for the students to elect to collect specific items for others at Christmas rather than have a gift exchange or to bring in their gifted “birthday money” to give to a project for which we are collecting. When there is a need in the community, our school tries their best to help.

Items that we are currently collecting for WVU Medicine Children’s include: Onesies, Infant socks, PJs of all sizes (toddler-teenager), Underwear (toddler-teenager), coloring books, Crayons, markers, colored pencils, individual paints and paint brushes, scrapbooking materials, craft kits, games, newly released G/PG-13 movies, toys, newly released XBOX 360 games (No mature rating), word searches, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, board games, board books, wipeable toys, Nintendo DS games (No mature rating), toiletry items, hair brushes, nail polish, sippy cups, new stuffed animals, new fleece blankets, journals. Monetary donations are accepted.

Former teachers of MMCS and their children serve the Lord as missionaries in Pucallpa, Peru through the South America Mission. Mr. & Mrs. Brown teach at SAM Academy, a school for missionary children in Pucallpa. Their service allows the parents of their students to minister in a variety of manners, such as aviation ministry, Bible translation, church planting, and theological education. They desire to teach and influence both academically and spiritually. In the past, MMCS students have collected and donated books to the school. We continue to accept monetary donations for the SAM Academy.

Samaritan's Purse

Love in a shoebox money and items will be collected in October/November.

Every student in grades 1-5 have a laptop to use in school, for educational purposes. Students have access to IXL, Moby Max, Flash Math, Happy Numbers, Quizlet, Spelling Stars, and Grammarly; purchased by the school.

Every student in the Middle School is given a laptop to use in school for such tasks as browsing the Internet, research, typing papers, creating PowerPoint presentations, and other projects.

The Arts

At Mount Moriah Christian School, we offer music and art for all grades thus providing students with the opportunity to explore their God-given talents in the world of fine arts.

Music

Our music program varies based on grade level. In the lower elementary school grades, students are taught Christian songs and what it means to praise God through music. Middle school students learn everything from the Music Alphabet and Dynamics to Music Theory and History.

Students in K-5 participate in the annual Christmas program in December and the spring program in May!

Art

The Art program at MMCS teaches individual creativity. The children are presented basic art skills and encouraged to explore their inner artist. By exposing them to different mediums, techniques, and artists through a variety of projects, they learn to see Art in everything.

In Middle School students dive deep into the principles of art and the elements of design. They spend time studying artists of years past and how they define the history of art.

Physical Education

The physical education curriculum for grades K-5 at MMCS not only introduces children to various sports, fun activities, and exercises but also emphasizes teamwork and the importance of being active everyday…and having fun doing it!

In middle school, students enjoy playing sports as well as learn how to exercise properly and how often exercise is needed. The science of nutrition and calories and how it affects our bodies is introduced.
